Legal
Acceptable Use & Platform Rules
BookTrades only works if the information on it is honest. These rules apply to everyone using the platform.
Last updated: 7 August 2026
Be truthful
- Use your real name or genuine registered business name.
- Only claim qualifications, registrations, memberships or insurance that you actually hold and can evidence.
- Keep your live availability genuine. Marking yourself available when you are not is the fastest way to lose your account.
- Do not misrepresent your trade, experience, service area or past work. Project photos must be of work you carried out.
Reviews must be real
- Only review a job you genuinely had done through BookTrades.
- Do not write, buy, exchange or solicit fake reviews, and do not review your own business or a competitor.
- Do not offer incentives in exchange for a positive review, or pressure a customer to change or remove one.
- Do not include personal information, abuse or unrelated complaints in a review.
Treat people properly
- No harassment, threats, discrimination, or abusive or offensive language.
- No spam, unsolicited advertising, or using enquiries to sell unrelated products or services.
- Do not share someone else's personal information without their permission.
- Do not attempt to move a customer off-platform in order to avoid our rules or moderation.
Stay legal and safe
- Do not offer work you are not legally allowed to carry out. Gas, electrical and other regulated work must only be undertaken by appropriately registered people.
- Do not use BookTrades for anything unlawful, fraudulent or deceptive.
- Do not attempt to access accounts, data or areas of the platform you are not entitled to, or to probe, scrape or disrupt the service.
Reporting something
You can report a tradesperson profile from their profile page, and a review from the review itself. If a message or enquiry is abusive, report the other party's profile and tell us the details. Reports go to our moderation team.
We never tell the person you reported who submitted the report.
If someone is in immediate danger, contact the emergency services on 999. For anything urgent involving the platform, email hello@booktrades.co.uk.
What happens if rules are broken
Depending on how serious it is, we may hide content, remove a review, unpublish a listing, suspend an account or remove it entirely. Suspended accounts cannot send enquiries, send messages, leave reviews or appear in search. Where practical we will explain the reason and how to respond.
